The Second Pour
Samuel first poured oil over David’s head while he was still a shepherd boy. Years later, David would be anointed again as king over Judah, and later over all Israel. Fresh assignment. Fresh oil. Fresh grace. Sometimes we make the mistake of trying to live today’s assignment on yesterday’s oil. God was faithful yesterday. But He’s not asking you to survive on memories of what He used to do. There is grace for today. John describes it as “grace for grace” wave upon wave, supply upon supply. You used yesterday’s grace yesterday. Friend, there’s more.
David’s cup didn’t contain just enough. It overflowed. That’s the generosity of God. When God calls you into another season, He already knows what that season will require. Grace doesn’t mean the assignment will always be easy. It means you will never have to carry a God-given assignment without access to God-given strength. Hold out your cup. Yesterday’s mercy brought you here. And, there’s another pour coming.
Grounded In Faith
Father, thank You for grace that never runs dry. I release yesterday’s strength, yesterday’s victories, and yesterday’s failures. Give me fresh oil for today’s assignment. Pour wisdom, courage, patience, endurance, and mercy into every place that feels empty. Let my cup overflow so that Your grace doesn’t merely sustain me but spills through my life into the lives of others. Amen.
