2 Samuel 5:24
“And it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall advance quickly. For then the LORD will go out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.”
Brew On This
Are you listening for God’s present instruction, or automatically repeating what worked in the past?

The Sound
in the Trees
David had beaten the Philistines before. So, when they came back, it would have been easy to reach for yesterday’s battle plan. Except God said no. This time, David was told to circle around behind them and wait. Then came one of the strangest instructions in Scripture: listen for the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees. When you hear it, move. I love that.
We like formulas, but God wants relationship. We want to know exactly how He did it last time so we can reproduce it. But yesterday’s strategy can become today’s substitute for hearing God. The Holy Spirit is not a formula.
The question isn’t simply, What worked before? The question is, Holy Spirit, what are You doing now? Keep your sword ready but keep your ear tuned. When Heaven starts marching, that’s your signal. Go.
Grounded In Faith
Holy Spirit, tune my ears to the sound of Your movement. Keep me from relying upon yesterday’s victories instead of today’s instruction. Teach me when to wait, when to listen, and when to move. I don’t want to run ahead of You or lag behind. Go before me, Lord, and give me courage to move when Heaven moves. Amen.
Pray-A-Latte
You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.
