1 Corinthians 1:27
“But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.”
Brew On This
Is there a place in your life that feels hidden, overlooked, or delayed that could be God’s training ground for a new beginning?
Daily Devotional
The Eighth Son
When the prophet Samuel came to the house of Jesse, seven sons passed before him. Each one looked strong, capable, and kingly. Yet the Lord said, no. The one God had chosen wasn’t even in the lineup. He was out in the fields tending sheep.
That forgotten shepherd was David—the eighth son. In Scripture, the number eight often represents new beginnings, and David’s story proves it. His anointing in First Samuel 16 wasn’t just a promotion; it was a divine separation. God was setting David apart for something greater than anyone could see. What looked like obscurity was preparation.
God often works through separation. Before the throne came the quiet places where David learned to worship, fight lions, and trust the voice of God. The field was not a delay—it was the training ground for destiny. When Samuel poured oil over David’s head, it marked more than the start of a new chapter. It was the beginning of a new era.
God still does this today. If you feel hidden, overlooked, or set apart from the crowd, take heart. God’s separation is not rejection—it is protection and preparation. The God who called the eighth son is still writing stories of new beginnings. And when His oil falls, the overlooked becomes the chosen and anointed for such a time as this!
Grounded in Faith
Father, thank You for seeing me even in the quiet places.
When I feel hidden, remind me that You are preparing me just as You prepared David.
Give me faith to trust Your timing to grow where You have placed me.
Separate my heart for Your purposes and lead me into the new beginning You are writing for my life. Amen.
Pray-A-Latte
You will make your prayer to him, and he will hear you.
