You Get to Choose

In 2 Kings 13:13, we see the closing note of King Jehoash’s life—a man who had moments of doing what was right, but never fully surrendered his heart to God. His story is a quiet warning: partial obedience isn’t obedience at all. It’s like starting down the right road, then slowly drifting into the ditch. 

And here’s something we can’t miss—just because your father stumbled doesn’t mean you have to. You are not bound to repeat what came before you. You can choose differently. You can turn around and build something better. You can create a “good king” legacy—one marked by honor, obedience, and a heart fully aligned with God. 

Rebellion doesn’t always show up loud and obvious. Sometimes it’s subtle—compromise here, delay there, a quiet “I’ll deal with that later.” Before long, you find yourself slipping and sliding somewhere you never meant to be. Sin rarely announces itself; it just nudges you off course one small step at a time. 

But here’s the grace-filled truth: you can turn around while you still can. 

If you’ve been walking in partial obedience, today is your moment. Don’t justify it. Don’t delay it. Back it on up. Step out of the mess, out of the compromise, out of the gray areas—and get back on the right road. You get to choose. The legacy you leave starts with the decision you make today.
