Mighty Men
There are moments in history that reveal what is inside a man. When everything is comfortable, courage can remain hidden. But when the hour becomes difficult, when danger comes, when others are afraid—something rises. We saw it on September 11. We saw ordinary men and women run toward danger while others were running away. We saw courage, sacrifice, selflessness, and strength rise in the middle of unimaginable darkness.
That’s what pressure can reveal. Scripture gives us another picture of men being formed in a difficult hour, not in a palace, but in a cave. David was hiding in the Cave of Adullam when a group of unlikely men began gathering around him. They were distressed. They were in debt. They were discontented. But God wasn’t looking at what they were. He was looking at what they would become.

It was where God began building their story. These broken men would become the beginning of David’s mighty men—the legendary warriors whose exploits fill the pages of Scripture. Jesus has always gathered unlikely people and called greatness out of them.
Grounded In Faith
Father, call the warrior out of me. Use even the difficult places to develop courage, loyalty, wisdom, and strength. Help me recognize potential in people others overlook. Heal what is broken and give purpose to what has felt wasted. Keep me close to the King while You train my hands for battle and my heart for service. Let heroes rise. Amen.
