Arrows and Shields
David understood weapons. He knew the weight of a sword, the reach of an arrow, and the absolute necessity of a shield. Yet when he stood before Goliath, David revealed where his confidence actually lived. “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the LORD.” David wasn’t merely fighting Goliath, he was testifying before two armies about who God was.
Sometimes your greatest testimony isn’t what you say after the battle. It’s what you declare while the giant is still standing. Faith doesn’t deny the size of the enemy. Faith simply refuses to make the enemy bigger than God. There will always be arrows flying somewhere.
But David knew something we need to remember: God Himself is our shield. A shield means arrows fired at you don’t get the final word. Your assignment is to remain faithful in what you know about God. Tell the truth before the giant falls. A faithful witness doesn’t testify according to what his eyes see. He testifies according to the character of the King. So pick up your shield. There are still giants watching to see whether you actually believe what you’ve been saying.
Grounded In Faith
Lord, make me a faithful witness.
When arrows fly and circumstances challenge what I believe, remind me of who You are.
Put truth in my mouth and courage in my heart.
Be my shield and my defender.
May my life testify that You are faithful before, during, and after every battle.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
