The state of the union last Tuesday night was one of the most dramatic and very best I have ever seen in my lifetime. The state of the union last Tuesday night was one of the most dramatic and very best I have ever seen in my lifetime.
This year, we will celebrate 25 years at OpenDoor Church. On the 25th, we will celebrate 31 years of marriage.
My old age plan used to be to eat until I filled in the wrinkles, but I have had to come up with a different plan. The best plan for maturing is learning the art of letting go of what doesn’t work in this season and embrace what does work.
1 Corinthians 13:11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.
The reason we don’t want to let go of things that no longer fit the season is because we want to deny the new season we are moving into.
DON’T BE AFRAID OF MATURITY
One of the great things people don’t tell you about getting older is that it is such a nice change from being young.
We have to grow up. We have to embrace maturity and going to the next level.
You need a lifestyle of dying daily so that you do not waste your life trying not to lose anything.
YOU DON’T HAVE TIME TO WASTE YOUR LIFE. A life not wasted is a life that embraces Jesus and recklessly goes after the goodness of God.
You don’t have to hang onto the past to hang onto great things. Jesus is your life!
There is a huge word about being in sync with the Holy Spirit in the hour and day we are living in.
The mark of cursed people is to miss the day and season they live in.
Deuteronomy 28:67In the morning you shall say, Would God it were even! and at even you shall say, Would God it were morning! for the fear of your heart with which you shall fear, and for the sight of your eyes which you shall see.
WAYS YOU ARE CURSED BY BEING OUT OF TIMING:You don’t put inline skates on your walker. A nose ring and bifocalsSpiked hair and bald spotsA pierced tongue and denturesMiniskirts and support hoseAnkle Bracelets and corn padsSpeedo’s and celluliteA belly button ring and a gall bladder surgery scarUnbuttoned disco shirts and a heart monitor The whole point of maturing is not about getting old and feeble.
The point of maturing is all about mastering your life. It’s about overcoming and not being victimized by things in this world
You have to grow in discipleship. As you grow in discipleship, you have to mature. As you mature, you are going to grow into excellence. As you grow in excellence, you will grow in fruitfulness or the manifestation of the Spirit.
(prayer answered and dreams coming true and heaven invading earth)
MATURITY = EXCELLENCE = FRUITFULNESS Philippians 1:9-11
There is always a price in maturity – in growing. There is always a price in bearing fruit.
YOU MUST BE WILLING TO SURRENDER TO GOD’S CHANGE FOR YOUR LIFE: AN ISSUE OF TRUST
The biblical term for surrendering your life to the way God wants to change you is called “dying”
John 12:24Verily Verily I say unto you (King James Version) …unless the grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains what it was–a single grain; but that if it dies, it yields a rich harvest. (Weymoth New Testament version)
IF YOU REMAIN THE SAME, YOU WILL NEVER SEE THE HARVEST.
YOU HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO prioritize God’s life over your life. Every day you die a little bit more and every day you are resurrected a little bit more.
You and I must learn the skill and power of radically trusting God.
EXPERIENCE, CONFIDENCE AND TRUST
The Webster definition “to trust”1. Reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing; confidence.2. Confident expectation of something; hope.3. Confidence in the certainty of something… 4. A person on whom one relies: God is my trust.
1 John 5:14–15 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
Philippians 4:13I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Romans 8:37Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
Proverbs 3:26For the Lord will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being caught.
There is a transition for every part of our lives where God becomes our confidence.
You have to develop, map out and make a big deal out of your own personal history with God.
On Wednesday night, I taught on the power of impartation and the fundamental principle of laying our hands on people when we pray….
The Holy Spirit can impart gifts, anointing and breakthrough into your life. * I can give you whatever God is releasing through me, but I cannot impart my history into your life. Trusting and having confidence in God doesn’t mean having God figured out as far as what He does.
Trusting and having confidence in God means having God figured out as far as the kind of heart He has.
You don’t have to understand God’s hand to trust Him. You have to understand God’s heart toward you to trust Him.
1. I MUST GROW IN RADICAL TRUST. RADICAL TRUST COMES FROM RADICAL EXPERIENCE WITH GOD. 2. THE KEY IS TO TRUST GOD SIMPLY BECAUSE YOU SURRENDER TO HIS MAGNIFICENT AND HOLY HEART, NOT BECAUSE YOU HAVE HIM FIGURED OUT. 4. THERE ARE MANY TIMES I DON’T HAVE A CLUE ABOUT GOD’S HAND. BUT BECAUSE OF MY HISTORY WITH HIM, I HAVE BEGUN TO KNOW HIS HEART.
