Luke 5:4

“When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, ‘Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.’”

Brew On This

Where is God asking you to trust His word beyond the limits of your experience, understanding, or previous disappointment?

Daily Devotional

Into the Deep

Peter knew those waters. He was a fisherman, and he had worked all night without catching anything. Then Jesus told him to go deeper and try again. Peter had every natural reason to explain why it would not work. Wrong time. Wrong conditions. Empty nets. Long night. But he said something powerful. “Nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” That is faith.

Faith does not require circumstances to make sense before obeying God. Faith says, “Because You said it.” Some of us have spent years in shallow water because we like places where our feet can touch the bottom. We want God, but we also want control. The deep removes that illusion.

You may have tried before and caught nothing. That does not mean the next cast will be empty. Peter’s breakthrough came on the other side of exhausted obedience. There are things you will never discover while standing where you can still touch bottom. Jesus is already in the boat. Go to the depths.

Grounded In Faith

Lord, give me faith to launch into deeper water when You call. Forgive me for allowing disappointment, experience, or fear to have more authority than Your voice. Teach me to say, “Nevertheless, at Your word.” Take me deeper in prayer, obedience, surrender, and trust. I release my need to control the outcome and place my confidence in the One who is already in the boat. Amen.
