King of the Mountain
Mountains look impressive. Mountains offer high ground, perspective and protection. David took shelter in mountains but he understood something: The mountain wasn’t his source. His Creator was. We all have a tendency to confuse the thing God uses with the God who provided it.
David spent years moving through rugged terrain, caves, strongholds, and wilderness. Natural defenses mattered, but no mountain could protect him if God wasn’t with him. And no enemy could ultimately destroy him with God fighting for him. Maybe there’s a mountain in front of you today. Good.
Mountains give us opportunities to discover how big God really is. Lift your eyes higher. Your help comes from the Lord. The mountain may be enormous, but it still has a Maker. The One who formed it knows every path over it, around it, and-when necessary-straight through it.
Grounded In Faith
Maker of heaven and earth, I lift my eyes to You. Keep me from placing my security in people, positions, resources, or circumstances. When mountains rise before me, remind me that they remain beneath Your authority. Show me the path You have chosen and give me courage to follow. My help, strength, provision, and victory come from You alone. Amen.
