1 Samuel 17:23
“David said to Saul, “Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him.”
Brew On This
When the giants in your life begin to shout, do you shrink back with the crowd—or does something in you rise up and say, “Not on my watch”?
Not On My Watch
In 1 Samuel 17:23, the stage is set for an epic battle. David hears Goliath’s taunts, and something ignites inside him. While seasoned soldiers were shrinking back in fear, a shepherd boy stepped forward. Not because he was the biggest. Not because he was trained in war. But because he carried the heart of a champion and knew the God He served.
The giant wasn’t just defying Israel; he was defying the living God. David wouldn’t tolerate that. A champion’s heart isn’t moved by applause or intimidated by opposition. It is moved by honor. It burns with holy conviction. Where others see risk, a champion sees responsibility.
Before David ever wore a crown, he carried a kingly posture. Kings lead from the front. They protect what belongs to God. They don’t outsource courage. They are courageous.
David had already fought lions and bears in secret. Victory in private built boldness in public. When the moment came, he didn’t hesitate—he ran toward the giant.
That’s the posture of a warrior. Not reckless. Not arrogant. But confident in covenant.
Giants still shout today—fear, compromise, injustice, intimidation. The question is not whether giants exist. The question is: who will step forward?
May we carry David’s heart. May something rise up within us that says, “Not on my watch.” And with faith in the living God, may we run toward the battle—and watch giants fall.
Grounded In Faith
Father God, awaken in me the heart of a champion. Build my courage in the secret place like You did with David.
Train my hands for battle and my heart for honor. Give me the posture of a king—to lead with humility, strength, and unwavering faith.
Help me run toward the battles You’ve called me to face, not away from them. With You, I will not back down. Amen.
