“For man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” I Samuel 16:7 NKJV
The King’s Eye
When Samuel came to anoint the next king of Israel, he was impressed by Eliab’s appearance. But God interrupted his assumptions with a powerful truth: “Do not look at his appearance or his height… for the Lord sees not as man sees.” God was looking for a heart that beat in rhythm with His own. And He found it in David, a shepherd boy overlooked by everyone else.
Jesus chose twelve ordinary men to be His disciples, not for their status or intellect, but for their willingness to follow Him. These men were not religious scholars or community leaders; they were fishermen and a tax collector, ordinary people with everyday struggles. Yet, Jesus saw their potential and called them to a higher purpose.
God doesn’t choose people based on their résumés. He chooses based on their readiness to say yes. David wasn’t the biggest, strongest, or most qualified. But he had a heart that was after God’s own.
You may feel unqualified, scarred, or unseen. But God sees past the surface. He sees past your scars, past your performance, past your failures. He sees your heart, and He sees you.
Jesus digs your scars. He loves scars because they represent a war that He fought and won. Scars are proof that God heals.
Just like David, you’ve been chosen, not because of your appearance or qualifications, but because of what’s inside. Heaven has its eyes on you.
Brew on This:
Where have you felt disqualified, and how might God be calling you anyway?

Declare!
I am seen by God. My heart matters to Him, and I am chosen for His purpose. God’s love is greater than anything in my life. I love the Lord, and my heart rejoices that He loves me.
