Mark 7:5 (NKJV) Then the Pharisees and scribes asked Him, “Why do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?”
GOD’S COUNTRY
The Declaration of Independence was the birth certificate of our great nation, but it was also a death warrant for the signers. When those 56 guys signed it, there wasn’t a jubilee or shouting in Independence Hall. It was a solemn, Holy moment. When they put their signatures on that piece of paper, they knew their life would never ever be the same again. As a matter of fact, the closing paragraph of that holy document actually says, “…for the support of this declaration with the firm reliance of the protection of divine providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor.” It was a big deal.
They broke from the traditions and followed what God said. If you will believe God, and step into the place that He’s called you to step, He will give you grace for it.
Following Jesus requires “firm reliance of the protection of divine providence,” too. Jesus broke from the cultural and religious norms, and so must we. When we do, great things happen.
Think about the wonder that is the United States of America. It is a wonder. I know and love American history. I’m a history freak. I can see the hand of God throughout our history – Even in the midst of our horrible messes. We’ve had horrible messes because human beings are involved in it. It’s the same reason the church is so messed up: because human beings are involved in it.
Even with all that said, I can see God’s hand in America’s history. I can see how heaven has invaded earth, and I can see God’s promises. I wonder what would have happened to the rest of the world had there not been an America.
When I look at all that America is, I just say, “Thank you, Jesus.”
Declaration: In my life, there is no king but King Jesus. My ways on the path of life are not normal because I serve a supernatural King. Today, I will celebrate the freedom He has given me and will live free from the bondage of cultural norms.
