1 Corinthians 1:13-15 (NKJV) –Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 lest anyone should say that I had baptized in my own name.
THE MESSAGE OF THE CROSS
Paul relied on the power of the Holy Spirit. He did this so that you would not trust in human wisdom but in the power of God. The mystery of God was previously hidden even though he made it for our ultimate glory before the world began. The rulers had not understood it, if they did, they would not have crucified our glorious Lord.
1 Corinthians 1:17-18 (NKJV) 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect. 18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish. Since God, in His wisdom, saw to it that the world would never know Him through human wisdom.
Some preaching today is very religious or legalistic, and void of the Spirit. God never intended his churches to be like this. Through the preaching of the gospel, we are supposed to see the transforming power of God at work in people’s lives.
Paul was really bothered by the people putting some importance on him about baptism and trying to say he baptized them when their focus should be on Jesus and their walk with Him.
Water baptism is the next step after you receive Jesus in your heart. This is a public confession of your faith and commitment to Jesus. The old life is left in the water, and you rise to a new life in Christ Jesus. This is the life you will live out going forward.
Deuteronomy 7:9 (NKJV) “Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments.”
Because of the manifest presence of Jesus, your end will be a new beginning for multitudes! You will never be the same after this experience with God! Our God is Great!
Declaration: I will publicly confess the Lord Jesus as my Savior. I will publicly follow my confession with the water baptism and lead a life committed to Him.
