Revelation 11:17 (NKJV) – We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty, The One who is and who was and who is to come, because You have taken Your great power and reigned.

God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth. When John had an encounter with King Jesus in the book of Revelation, he was in the Spirit on the “Lord’s Day.” Considering the fact that God Almighty created all the days, I would argue that every single day belongs to Him. I don’t think it’d be too much to ask that we be intentional about being true worshipers of God every day of our lives.

Declaration: I will worship the Lord in Spirit and in truth! My mouth will sing and declare the praises of the Lord Most High, and my life will be a demonstration of the signs, miracles and wonders of God. So much so that when people see me, they will glorify my Father in heaven. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

TRUE WORSHIP

What did Jesus mean when he told the woman at the well that true worshipers of God must worship Him in spirit and in truth? Let’s look at what the Word of God says. Romans 12:1-2 (NKJV) says, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

The Greek word in verse one for “service” is latreia or worship. (Strong’s Concordance) Reasonable worship of God Almighty is the laying down of our lives for Him, just as Jesus Christ laid down His life on our behalf at the command of His Father. When Jesus laid down His life on the cross, it was worship to the Father.

What about truth? In John 14:6 King Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” The Greek word for “truth” there is aletheia and it means truth, but not merely truth as spoken; truth of idea, reality, sincerity, truth in the moral sphere, divine truth revealed to man, straightforwardness. (Strong’s Concordance) Jesus is truth, and no one reaches the Father except through Him; through accepting His sacrifice and propitiation for our sins.

So if we want to be true worshipers of God, we must be willing to lay down our lives for Him and approach Him through having accepted the sacrifice of His only Begotten Son, Jesus. It’s amazing how the Word reinforces itself! Take a look at these Scriptures.

2 Corinthians 5:15 (NKJV) – and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.

Ephesians 5:2 (NKJV) – And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

1 John 3:18 (NKJV) – My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

John 1:14 (NKJV) – And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

We have to be willing to lay down our lives for God Almighty, dying to ourselves and the flesh. Jesus is true reality. Let us fix our thoughts on Him as true worshipers of our heavenly Father.
