Hebrews 11:3 (NKJV) – By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

The universe itself was burst into existence by the power of the voice of God. “In the beginning God” are four of the most powerful words, written and spoken, in the world. Why? Because they leave no room for doubt or misinterpretation. He declared, and creation was! It came into being, riding on the sound waves of His voice. Friends, what are we speaking into existence in our own lives?

Declaration: I will guard the words of my mouth. I will not speak in idleness. Because I am made in the image of God, I know that the words I speak are full of power, for life or for death. I choose life! In Jesus’ name, Amen!

THE ETERNAL WORD

Hebrews 11:3 shines a light on the remarkable power of faith. It reveals that through faith, we come to comprehend the profound truth that the vast and intricate universe, with all its complexities, was masterfully fashioned and set in order by the very word of God. This scripture challenges us to embrace an inherent trust and enduring confidence in the boundless power, wisdom, and goodness of our Creator. It reminds us that the visible world we observe today is a product of the invisible hand of God, teaching us that the most extraordinary and enduring realities often originate from the realm of the unseen.

Earlier I mentioned the four powerful words, “In the beginning God.” Well, we can’t know those four without also knowing these six, “In the beginning was the Word…” Who was the word? Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Living Word of God. The One by whom all things were made, through Him and for Him.

Jesus, full of the Spirit of God (7), overcame the fallen flesh of man-kind (6), and redeemed His creation. (Luke 4:1, Romans 6) You and I are included in that creation package. However, when the Father formed us out of the dust of the earth, He didn’t stop there. He breathed into us His breath of life. He breathed into us the power to declare. And because we were made in His image, we have the power to see our words made manifest.

Proverbs 18:21 NKJV – Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

No doubt James, the brother of Jesus, was very familiar with Proverbs 18:21 when he wrote down in chapter 3 of his book, “Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. 5 Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things.”

Our words have power! It is because we’re made in the image of God that our words matter. Like Winston Churchill said, “Where there is great power, there is a great responsibility,” and just as Luke 12:48 tells us, “For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required,” we are to be responsible and sober about the words we allow to come forth from us. The Lord is concerned with our words because He’s entrusted to us the power that comes from them. Let’s decide right now, that regardless of our past mistakes or carelessness, we will enter into this new year and this new season, with pure hearts and clean speech before the Lord.

He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully. 5 He shall receive blessing from the Lord, And righteousness from the God of his salvation. – Psalm 24:4-5 NKJV
